Final Diagnosis!

Some amazing news!!

Duchess’ pathology on her limb/ tumor that was taken is back and she does NOT have osteosarcoma. She has a different type of cancer called Chondrosarcoma which to my research has a MUCH better outcome without metastatis & with amputation.

There is still chance of metastatis and we will be meeting with the oncologist to go over treatment if chemo is even required anymore but without metastatis she MAY live a full life! With metastatis the expectancy goes between 1.5 to 2years! Which to us is a miracle compared to the 6-10 month prognosis of osteo.

We are thrilled!!

Late night question

Does anyone have any tips or help they can give me with last day pain meds. Duchess took her last gabapentin this morning (she’s been off a tramadol since Tuesday) she is 10days post op.

Shes been fine all day, all evening. But she got up from sleeping and switched positions and is now breathing short heavy breaths. Like short heavy exhales. She makes that sound for super short periods of time when she’s mid dream but she also twitches and runs. She’s not doing that right now she’s just breathing weird

I’m concerned. Is she painful? She’s sleeping so that’s good, but is this a withdrawal kind of deal that will pass, or is she in real like need attention pain?

please settle my mind or give me some info on what I can do. I just don’t think it’s healthy for her to breathe and entire night so short and quick. It’s consistent which is good she doesn’t pause, but like she doesn’t seem relaxed in her sleep at alllll

Minor setback

Duchess has a minor skin infection at the bottom of her wound. We are taking her in to the local vet to get some antibiotics before it gets worse. Minor seepage no dripping. It’s the spot she lays on & she does lick at her shirts there so we think this is the cause. She also has extremely sensitive skin and it being directly in a staple makes me think there are a few factors here. Because I work and live 45mins away, I didn’t know this was happening until today when I was finally able to come see her, thankfully I know enough to know that that isn’t looking great. Rest of her incision is impeccable which further shows me this is just a localized issue. Staples come out Wednesday so we wanna nip this in the butt beforehand.

Day 4 home, 6 days post op

Duchess is doing fantastic, she can do everything unassisted (we stand about 3-5ft away just in case), has been taking huge poops once a day, and yesterday started acting more herself (just a lazier version of the silly)

we took her from tramadol 3 times per day to 2 and that seems to have made a huge difference in her mood overall and the panting rarely happens now. We were told tomorrow to take her off tramadol completely & keep her on the gabapentin til we feel she’s pain free.

Working on getting those poops more regular (her normal cycle is 2-3 poops per day) but the huge ones are a good sign she’s moving along.

Bandages come off tonight & staples come out next Wednesday (15 days post op as the clinic has specific days for non surgical appointments)

will update with a picture tonight or tomorrow of the surgical site.
