Progressing nicely

Duchess has had a great week

Staples are out, a few were ā€œtwistedā€ so it was a bit of a bloody removal but we have a soap & luckily sheā€™s already on antibiotics so no infection issues.

She is now able to go on short walks which she LOVES! As soon as we put her coat on that tail (or whip as we call it) was going top speed!

As I mentioned earlier this week sheā€™s back to bringing toys over to her human friends & has a ton more energy! Not super vocal yet unless you bug her enough to get some backsass. Otherwise I really see my girl back in action!

We are going to start working on her with stairs slowly, going up is no problem but she is hesitant to go down more than 2 steps as she wants to jump them rather than take them 1 by 1. Which at our home we have a set of 7 and 9 so jumping is not an option. Slowly but surely weā€™ll get her confidence up, as we know she can do it sheā€™s just gotta trust herself more!

Thank you to everyone whoā€™s given support and suggestions through these couple of weeks of recovery! Little tips here and there have helped me with my decisions & any anxieties Iā€™ve had.

Duchess is the kind of dog where sheā€™s nervous at first but when sheā€™s ready to make friends will bring the person a toy. To family, if you walk in the house she immediately brings toys.

Post op she hasnā€™t had any desire to play or pick up toys and TODAY when I came to visit her (reminder I live 45mins away and she is currently recovering at my moms house) she picked up her toy and brought it to me!!

im so happy to see my girl feeling more herself. The last thing Iā€™m looking forward to seeing is her talk back to us. Sheā€™s very sassy and likes to howl and bark to communicate. We to date have to kind of force it out of her, so Iā€™m waiting for her to do it on her own

Final Diagnosis!

Some amazing news!!

Duchessā€™ pathology on her limb/ tumor that was taken is back and she does NOT have osteosarcoma. She has a different type of cancer called Chondrosarcoma which to my research has a MUCH better outcome without metastatis & with amputation.

There is still chance of metastatis and we will be meeting with the oncologist to go over treatment if chemo is even required anymore but without metastatis she MAY live a full life! With metastatis the expectancy goes between 1.5 to 2years! Which to us is a miracle compared to the 6-10 month prognosis of osteo.

We are thrilled!!

Late night question

Does anyone have any tips or help they can give me with last day pain meds. Duchess took her last gabapentin this morning (sheā€™s been off a tramadol since Tuesday) she is 10days post op.

Shes been fine all day, all evening. But she got up from sleeping and switched positions and is now breathing short heavy breaths. Like short heavy exhales. She makes that sound for super short periods of time when sheā€™s mid dream but she also twitches and runs. Sheā€™s not doing that right now sheā€™s just breathing weird

Iā€™m concerned. Is she painful? Sheā€™s sleeping so thatā€™s good, but is this a withdrawal kind of deal that will pass, or is she in real like need attention pain?

please settle my mind or give me some info on what I can do. I just donā€™t think itā€™s healthy for her to breathe and entire night so short and quick. Itā€™s consistent which is good she doesnā€™t pause, but like she doesnā€™t seem relaxed in her sleep at alllll
